🌲 Tour Overview

For paddlers seeking the ultimate Yukon wilderness experience, the Wind River Expedition is unlike any other. Flowing through the untouched Peel watershed in northern Yukon, the Wind winds its way through sweeping alpine valleys beneath the Wernecke Mountains before joining the Peel River. Accessible only by floatplane, this journey is reserved for those ready to step far beyond the ordinary.

The Wind River offers a balance of challenge and accessibility: mostly Class II rapids and braided channels that require skillful paddling, but well within reach of intermediate canoeists. Along the way, there are opportunities to hike into ridgelines for panoramic views of the watershed, giving this trip a unique mix of paddling and alpine exploration.

Wildlife encounters are part of the adventure. Caribou, Dall sheep, moose, and even grizzlies roam the valleys, while golden eagles and falcons soar overhead. Nights are spent at wild gravel bar camps, where Yukon Wide’s renowned riverside cuisine transforms campfires into memorable dining experiences.

This is not just a river trip — it’s an expedition into one of North America’s last great wilderness frontiers.
