- Step into a wilder kind of Yukon adventure — a 7-day guided hiking journey through Tombstone’s jagged peaks and deep into the remote North, where few travelers ever set foot.
- Traveling in our fully converted school bus, we’ll roll beyond endless spruce forests and alpine ridges to the dramatic landscapes of Tombstone Territorial Park and the gold rush streets of Dawson City. The Squatch Bus is our mobile basecamp — carrying beds, a wood stove, and supplies so we can camp wild under open skies, wherever the road and trail take us.
- Days are all about big hikes — up to 25 km with 1500 m of gain — across tundra valleys, sweeping ridgelines, and iconic spots like Grizzly Lake. Along the way, we’ll mix it up with a raw day of rock climbing on Yukon granite and even try our hand at gold panning, a nod to the region’s frontier past.
- Nights bring fires under the midnight sun, stories around camp, and the kind of silence you only find this far north. The journey ends in Dawson City, where we’ll swap boots for saloons, live music, and maybe even the infamous Sour Toe Cocktail if you’re brave enough.
- This isn’t a soft road trip — it’s full immersion. A wild week of trails, ridges, and raw northern spirit, with the freedom to roam and the wilderness as our constant companion.

This trip is designed for active adventurers who love the outdoors and aren’t afraid to break a sweat. You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you should feel comfortable spending full days outside, hiking on uneven terrain, and gaining elevation.
We’ll tackle daily hikes ranging from 8 to 25 km, with up to 1,500 meters of elevation gain. Trails will take us through rugged landscapes, with some steep sections, rocky footing, and even a bit of light scrambling. You’ll also get a taste of vertical movement with an intro to rock climbing session—no experience needed, just a willingness to try something new.
If you’ve got a sense of adventure, an appreciation for big views and wild places, and the energy to embrace full days in nature (and maybe get a little dirty along the way), you’ll feel right at home.
Itinerary
Day 1: Whitehorse to Tombstone
Good morning, explorers! We’ll meet in Whitehorse, help you stow your gear, do a quick Squatch Bus familiarization, and hit the road as a group. Our journey north takes us along the scenic Klondike Highway, with stops at Braeburn Lodge (home of the legendary giant cinnamon buns) and the dramatic Five Finger Rapids lookout.
From there, we roll onto the legendary Dempster Highway, a road trip like no other. Picture snow‑capped peaks, sweeping tundra valleys, and endless wilderness stretching as far as the eye can see. This drive is your first real taste of the wild Yukon, where every bend reveals another postcard view.
By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at Tombstone Territorial Park, our base for the next few days. Towering mountains, crystal‑clear alpine lakes, and wide‑open spaces will be our backyard. Once camp is set up, the rest of the day is yours to explore, relax, or take in the vast Arctic landscape.
As evening settles in, we’ll gather around the campfire, sharing stories and laughs under the long summer twilight. With the stars overhead and nothing but the sounds of the wild around us, this is what vanlife in the Yukon is all about. Get some rest—tomorrow the real adventures begin
Days 2, 3, 4 & 5: Tombstone Adventure Time!
For the next few days, we’re diving deep into the wild heart of Tombstone Territorial Park. This isn’t your average hiking trip. Our days are spent crossing vast tundra valleys, bouncing over mossy ground, scrambling along ridgelines, and finding our own way through trackless terrain where trails barely exist. Every step feels like an adventure, with endless Arctic vistas and a true sense of remoteness.
One of the highlights is the hike to Grizzly Lake, an emerald-green jewel surrounded by jagged peaks, and one of the most iconic spots in all of the Yukon. The journey there is just as unforgettable, taking us through alpine meadows, rocky passes, and ridges that feel like they lead to the edge of the earth.
With the help of your local guide, you’ll navigate this raw landscape, discovering hidden corners and soaking in views few people ever get to see. The long summer days give us plenty of time for big hikes, route finding, and those quiet moments in the vast tundra.
Evenings are for the campfire, hearty meals, and sharing stories under the glow of the Yukon’s endless twilight. These days in Tombstone are rugged, wild, and unforgettable—this is true Yukon backcountry
Day 6: Striking Gold in Dawson City
After a few wild days in the backcountry, we trade tundra trails for Klondike gold rush streets as we roll into Dawson City—a town straight out of the 1890s, where wooden boardwalks, swinging saloon doors, and endless stories from the boomtown era set the scene.
We’ll kick things off with some hands‑on gold panning, just like the prospectors who came here dreaming of striking it rich. Who knows—you might even leave with a little sparkle of your own. Then, we’ll swap pans for ropes and hit the local crag for a rock climbing session. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or trying it for the first time, the views and atmosphere make it unforgettable.
As the sun dips and the town’s old lamps light up, we’ll head into town for a classic Dawson night out. Explore the saloons, soak in the lively vibe, and, if you’re feeling bold, take on the infamous Sour Toe Cocktail—a quirky Dawson tradition since 1973. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s a story you’ll be telling for years.
Day 7: The Final Leg – Back to Whitehorse
After a week of epic adventures, we’ll pack up and hit the road back to Whitehorse. On the drive, we’ll reminisce about all the wild memories we’ve made, from the breathtaking Tombstone peaks to the quirky charm of Dawson City.
We’ll arrive in Whitehorse late in the evening, and when we do, we’ll drop you off wherever you need to go—whether it’s your hotel, a friend’s place, or wherever your next adventure awaits. But before we part ways, don’t forget to leave your mark on the Squatch Bus! Write a message, doodle something, or just leave your initials to become part of our adventure history.
It’s a bittersweet farewell, but your Yukon memories will stay with you forever.
